Fire Safety
We have a fire safety policy and fire risk assessment in place to ensure that residents are safe from fire related accidents and incidents.
The key elements of our fire policy are as follows.
- We have a designated trained staff member on each shift who is responsible for ensuring that residents and visitors are vacated safely from the building to an assembly point
- Fire safety is part of the induction that residents go through when they join our service
- Fire alarm tests and emergency lighting tests are carried out weekly and recorded in the fire log. Any alarm points that are found not working are reported immediately and repaired at the shortest possible time using our designated fire service contractor
- The residential accommodation has clear signage for fire exits and escape routes to fire exits ensure that service users vacate the premises safely
- Fire drills are carried out monthly at different intervals to keep residents and staff aware of the evacuation procedures in the event of a fire
- All rooms have fire doors to protect residents in the event that the escape routes are blocked or are not accessible
- Fire exits and escape routes are kept clear of any obstructions at all times. The service manager is responsible for carrying out weekly checks on fire safety by carrying out visual checks on gas and electrical equipment such emergency lighting, damaged wiring or cracked sockets.
- Staff and residents are instructed on how to operate the nearest fire alarm to ensure that residents are aware of the danger of fire.
- Only staff who have received the appropriate training may attempt to tackle fire only when it is safe to so and does not put other residents at risk
- All electrical equipment is PAT tested to ensure that it is safe to use and a safety certificate is kept in the company’s records at the premises. Similarly all gas appliances such as hobs, boilers are also tested to ensure they are safe and a gas safety certificate is issued.
- The designated fire safety staff are trained on the procedures and protocols of what to do in the event of a fire and they are also required to attend additional courses on fire safety as required by the law
- A file with all records of tests, drills, inspections and repairs will be kept in a fireproof safe at the residence
