Here at Shikenah Health Care, we understand that anyone, young or old with mental health or any other challenges are people first, and have a right to be treated with respect and in a dignified manner.
We believe that everyone wants to be defined as a friend, a neighbour, a member of the community where they live, a colleague or a relative and not by what they cannot do physically. They also share the right to enjoy similar opportunities and responsibilities like all citizens. This includes access to health care, employment, local services, suitable housing, and most importantly leading active and fulfilling lives.
We also recognise that young people with mental health and other challenges suffer many disadvantages due to their intellectual, medical and physical impairments, mostly due to barriers that the society imposes, attitudes and social exclusion. It is our fundamental belief that Shikenah Health Care can contribute significantly to changing these attitudes by providing holistic care and support to our service users so that they can achieve better outcomes.
We fully understand that everyone is unique, with their own personal values and beliefs shaped by culture, religion, and personal experiences.
Our values are shaped around a practice that engages, supports, encourages, facilitates involvement and helps individuals to make decisions that they feel are right for them.
We believe in effective communication that enables individuals to identify their strengths, assess their needs, and develop and gain the confidence to self-care. We understand the importance of providing appropriate information for individuals to make well-informed decisions about their goals and needs and the range of options available to them. We value enablement. Our service users will be enabled to access a range of networks and opportunities so that they able to develop the necessary skills and confidence they need to enjoy life to the full.
