Service Provision
Shikenah Healthcare Ltd support services are set to provide the highest standards of personal care and reliability. Our registration with the Care Quality Commission will enable us to care for individuals with learning disabilities as defined in the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Support for Adults with Learning Difficulties (excluding those assessed with specific challenging behaviour). Service users who move into our service receive the following support services:
- Health and safety (fire risks and other hazards).
- Shop, cook and eat sessions.
- Preparing snacks.
- Work placements - paid.
- Laundry skills.
- Shopping.
- Cleaning and tidying up.
- Organisational skills.
- Gardening.
- Numeracy and literacy skills.
- Bus and train travel.
- Money management.
- Help managing medication.
- Continence Care.
- Registration with a GP service.
- Attendance to hospital or GP for treatment.
- Sexual Health advice.
- Exercise programmes under the instruction of a physiotherapist or occupational health therapist.
The personal learning and development support is care plan centred and is aimed at educating the service user about various areas of their personal development and to create an awareness of issues like how they spend time, sexuality, relationships, self-esteem and attitude. Some of the areas covered in the support plan will include:
- How to spend time productively.
- Understanding personal health.
- Relationships with people they know.
- Understanding mental health and other conditions.
- Keeping safe and how to report unsafe situations.
- Taking responsibility for one’s actions.
- Making important decisions.
- Self Esteem, Well-being, feeling good and thinking positively.
- Using the internet responsibly.
- Relationships and sexuality.
- Reporting Bullying and Harassment.
We will provide a wide range of activities in and outside Sheffield which include some of the following: Physical Activities
- Walking and cycling in surrounding parks.
- Country walks.
- Canoeing and fishing.
- Gym sessions.
- Line dancing.
- Music and movement.
- Recycling.
- Swimming.
- Football.
- In-house games Leisure.
- Visits to the local cinema.
- Annual trips to resort areas such.
- Visits to social clubs.
- Pub visits.
- Evening social activities.
- Birthday celebrations.
- Hair salon treatments.
- Massage Treatment.
- Trips to a bowling centre.
- Visits to other learning disability centres /homes.
- Trips to London and other heritage locations.
We will encourage and support our service users to take up learning courses that can lead to employment or volunteering. The courses are designed to improve literacy and numeracy skills as well as opportunities in specific areas. We will also provide access to computers and IT skills. Our team will work with our service users about the work they would like to do and support them to find and apply for suitable jobs. We will assist our service users to complete job application forms, prepare for an interview and help to plan travel arrangements to work.

We will work closely with social workers, community nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists to ensure that our service users get the support which is best suited to their individual needs. We will signpost our service users for the following services.

- Sexual Health.
- Housing advice.
- Mental and physical health therapy.
- Counselling for behaviour issues, self-esteem, and abuse.
